Released in 1978, "Disco Shitân" is a unique work by the France-based project Shitân. It features Middle Eastern melodies and phrases evocative of Arabic music, while boldly fusing the disco/funk rhythms of the time with synthesizers. The combination of exotic scales and repetitive grooves creates a disco sound with an oriental tinge. It is also an interesting example of cross-cultural production in Europe in the late 1970s, and possesses an experimental nature that goes beyond the boundaries of disco. In later years, the album would be reevaluated in the context of obscure disco and world disco.
