A reissue of Byron Morris & Unity's "Blow Thru Your Mind", a masterpiece of independent jazz released in the United States in 1974. Unity, as its name suggests, was formed with the same values, purpose and goals as many other spiritual conscious groups of the time. Unique was the musical and spiritual exploration of John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders and Ornette Coleman, and the experimentalism brought to the group by vocalist Jay Clayton, who has worked with the likes of Steve Reich. It's a good blend of New York art music dimensions. Bassist Milton Saggs played in Sun Ra's Arkestra, while Byron Morris studied with Ornette Coleman and Larsan Roland Kirk. Byron Morris was first recorded on Soul Jazz Records' early compilation Universal Sounds Of America, along with songs by Sun Ra, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Pharoah Sanders and Steve Reed. Originally released on Unity's own EPI label and hand-sold, the record has remained an underground classic for over 25 years.
