Born in Selma, Alabama, OC Tolbert (real name Arthur Cleveland Tolbert) was exposed to gospel music from an early age due to his father, a pastor, and showed his talent by leading the church choir at the age of 10. In 1966, he switched to R&B and began his career in Detroit. He eschewed major record companies and produced this album with producer Jack Taylor. Filled with passionate shouts and funky grooves, this is a masterpiece that combines the soul of gospel with the energy of funk.
