"The Edge" is an anomalous experimental electronic work born from Portugal's underground scene in the early 1980s. Its hard, restrained beats created by synthesizers and drum machines, and its inorganic, tension-filled sound design, strongly reflect the atmosphere of avant-garde electronic music that was emerging around Lisbon at the time. While hinting at new wave and post-punk, it possesses an isolated aesthetic that clearly distances itself from the mainstream. The sound, where a sense of stagnation coexists with an experimental spirit, is highly suggestive even from a contemporary experimental/minimalist perspective. This is an important rediscovered work of obscure Portuguese electronic music.
