Cobblestone Jazz is an improvisational electronic music unit from Vancouver, Canada, consisting of Mathew Jonson, Tyger Dhula, and Danuel Tate. This is a significant work containing live/session recordings from 2001, which represent their origins. The highlight is A1, which takes Pharoah Sanders' "The Creator Has A Master Plan" as its theme, translating the exhilaration of spiritual jazz into analog synthesizers and raw machine grooves. Their unique methodology of fusing jazz improvisation with minimal/tech-house in real-time is already clearly evident. "Rumors," "Wishes," and "The Goods" also showcase the excellent organic polyrhythms and fluctuations that would characterize later Cobblestone Jazz. This is a masterpiece EP that fundamentally connects jazz and electronic music, transcending the boundaries of 2000s minimal music.
