This self-titled album from 1995 saw Femi Kuti, the eldest son of Afrobeat founder Fela Kuti, firmly establish his own style. Building on the powerful polyrhythms and horn sections inherited from his father, he updated them with a more compact and contemporary funk/jazz sensibility, creating a new generation of Afrobeat.
It features many lengthy tracks, including the vibrant "Wonder Wonder" with its driving horns and repetitive groove, as well as "Survival," "Frustrations," and "Plenty Nonsense." This is an important early work by Femi Kuti, not only inheriting Fela's legacy but also connecting Afrobeat to the post-90s era.
