This is the only album recorded in 1977 by Southern Energy Ensemble, known as a sister band to Oneness of Juju, released by Black Fire, a label familiar for its Oneness of Juju releases.
The band was formed by trumpeter Marvin Daniels, who had been active in 100% Poison, an army band for the US military stationed in Germany. Upon returning to the US, Daniels met Plunky Branch of Oneness of Juju and Jimmy Gray, the owner of Black Fire label, and recorded this album in 1977. Although it was shelved at the time, it finally saw the light of day in 1993. The album includes "Open Your Mind," a killer jazz-funk track with sharp piano and powerful vocals, "F-U-N-K-Y 'Til The Day," a low-slung, muddy funk tune as the title suggests, and "Third House," which features a groovy percussion intro, flowing solo interplay, and a powerful drum break that will get the dance floor hyped!
