The Antique Blacks is one of the limited number of LPs that Sun Ra pressed to sell at concerts and clubs, and the original is quite rare. It is said to have been recorded from a radio program broadcast at Temple University in Philadelphia in 1974. Like many independent releases on Sun Ra's Saturn label, this album is a mix of material, with little continuity or coherence. It's not a bug, it's a feature. The album is loaded with hilarious jams ("Song No. 1"), a few songs, and Sunny's declarative (and cryptic) sermons. It hasn't been on the market for over 30 years. A reissue from the Art Kindred Spirits label.
