This 2002 release by Akwaaba, a four-member UK group consisting of Ben Smith, Paul N. Murphy, Stevie Kotey, and Tom Lee, was released on Bear Entertainment. Stevie Kotey, in particular, operated Bear Entertainment with Dean Meredith of Chicken Lips and later founded Bear Funk, making him an important figure in UK leftfield disco. The title track, "The Mysterious Cities Of Delay," is a slow-mo disco track where sticky bass, raw disco grooves, and dubby effects mysteriously intertwine. The B-side also features tracks that are not straightforward, combining funk, dub, and electro with a distorted sensibility. This obscure weapon condenses the psychedelic disco sensibility of the early 2000s UK underground, appealing to fans of Chicken Lips and Idjut Boys.
