Born in Selma, Alabama, O.C. Tolbert (real name Arthur Cleveland Tolbert) was exposed to gospel music from a young age through his pastor father, and by the age of 10, he displayed a talent for leading church choirs. In 1966, he transitioned to R&B and began his career in Detroit. Avoiding major record labels, he produced this album with producer Jack Taylor. Filled with passionate shouts and funky grooves, this album is a masterpiece that merges the soul of gospel with the energy of funk.
