Gilberto Gil first tried to make this record in New York for the international market, was unhappy with the results, and remade it in Rio in mid-1982, again with Liminha producing as on Luar. Gil described it as a search for a universal sense of Umbanda. The studio band is a who's who of early-'80s Rio: Lincoln Olivetti, Jorjão Barreto and Rique Pantoja on keyboards, Oberdan Magalhães of Banda Black Rio on sax, Ricardo Silveira and Celso Fonseca on guitar, with reggae running through much of the record. It holds three songs that became standards — "Andar Com Fé", "Drão" and "Esotérico". This is the European pressing.
