Instant Funk came out of Trenton, New Jersey, and spent years as Bunny Sigler's backing band before "I Got My Mind Made Up" made them a Salsoul success. Witch Doctor followed in late 1979, recorded and mixed by Bob Blank at Blank Tape Studios in New York. Sigler kept the production credit, but trumpeter and arranger Larry Davis drove much of the record. Raymond Earl's bass and Scotty Miller's drums anchor it; "Slap, Slap, Lickedy Lap" and "Bodyshine", both singles and both past the seven-minute mark, are the long dance cuts, while "I Had A Dream" is a mellow ballad and the title track is loose and boisterous. This is the 1980 Japanese issue, with liner notes by Toshi Konno.
