The Edge is an unorthodox work of experimental electro music that emerged from Portugal's underground scene in the early 1980s. The hard, restrained beats of synthesizers and drum machines, along with the inorganic, tense sound design, strongly reflect the atmosphere of avant-garde electronic music that was emerging around Lisbon at the time. While hinting at new wave and post-punk, the album's aesthetic is isolated and clearly distanced from the mainstream. The sound, which combines a sense of claustrophobia with an experimental spirit, is highly suggestive even from the perspective of current experimental/minimal music. This is an important excavation of obscure Portuguese electro music.
