Javier Segura, born in 1955 on Tenerife in the Canary Islands, has recorded largely outside the Spanish music business, working from a home studio on the island. In 1981–82 he ran the improvising duo Arte Moderno with Juan Belda, built around a Roland TR-808. This 1983 album on Jaja Records is all his own writing: five songs, with a lyric insert, running from "No Mires Atrás" through "Noches En Geneto" to the long-form "Camino Largo" and "Conversación" on side B. His method relies on a small rig of guitar, rhythm box, synth and pedals that still opens up a lot of space. Passat Continu's compilations have since brought him wider attention, but the original LP remains very hard to find.
