Recorded by Marion Brown at Soest in the Netherlands on 14 December 1967, in a trio with two European players — Maarten Altena on bass and Han Bennink on drums. An early document of American free jazz meeting European improvisation. The twelve-minute "Porto Novo" is the longest piece, and the title of "Improvisation" on A3 says the rest: the response of the players comes before any written theme. This is the Japanese pressing licensed by Trio Records and issued under the Freedom name, with obi and a Japanese insert.
