Recorded by the trumpeter Mark Isham and the pianist Art Lande at Rainbow Studio in Oslo in January 1987, engineered by Jan Erik Kongshaug and produced by Manfred Eicher. Both men double on synthesiser and percussion, with Isham also taking piccolo trumpet and flugelhorn. The longest piece is the eleven-minute "Surface And Symbol", where short trumpet phrases are set over sustained electronics. Isham moved towards film scoring from around this point, which makes this readable as the instrumental work just before. Digital recording.
