"Portraits Of Picasso" by the enigmatic Spanish project Marocana. While evoking North African melodies and rhythms, the album possesses an abstract quality that cannot be pinned down to any particular folk music, and is a vague intersection of jazz, improvisation, and library techniques. As the title suggests, the album features a fragmented structure that sonically traces Picasso's Cubist perspective, and appears more like a collection of sound sketches than a musical composition. Similar to the work of Finis Africae and his colleagues, the album has a sense of dissolving the boundaries of place, era, and genre. This is a powerful obscure album that leaves interpretation up to the listener.
