Formed in Barcelona from the remnants of Máquina!, Música Urbana was the vehicle of composer and multi-instrumentalist Joan Albert Amargós, who assembled a local supergroup one player at a time: Carles Benavent on bass and contrabass, Lucky Guri on piano and Moog, Salvador Font on drums and marimba, Lluís Cabanach on Les Paul. Amargós himself moves between Steinway, Fender, Moog and clavinet, then picks up soprano sax, clarinet, flute and trombone. Their 1976 debut on Zeleste/Edigsa sets jazz-rock drive against Mediterranean and Andalusian melody and a composer's sense of form, with castanets and marimba colouring the arrangements. Every piece is Amargós's except Benavent's "Font". A key document of the Zeleste scene's search for a Catalan voice rather than an Anglo-American one.
