Roland P. Young was a DJ and producer at underground FM stations in San Francisco and Berkeley in the 60s and 70s. Alongside his musical activities, he continually broadcast messages on music, philosophy, religion, and politics. He even supported the Black Panther Party in its early days (though he later ceased his support, disagreeing with their armed struggle). In the early 70s, he was the leader of the spiritual jazz group Infinite Sound. However, due to his controversial remarks on the radio, he was fired from the FM station. This prompted him to focus on music, and after more than two years of production, he self-released his first solo album, "Isophonic Boogie Woogie," in 1980. In his own words, this album is a culmination of his 25-year journey as a musician since his awakening, encompassing electronic/acoustic, ambience, jazz, chamber music, minimalism, and world music, all resonating as one.
