Samuel Jonathan Johnson, a keyboardist and singer raised in Des Moines, made just one album, released by Columbia in 1978 and largely overlooked at the time. Richard Evans arranged the strings, horns and backing vocals, Morris Jennings and Larry Ball hold down drums and bass, and Johnson plays Rhodes, organ and Poly-Moog over a warm, lush production. The title track is a slow, layered groove that The Alchemist later sampled for Jadakiss's "We Gonna Make It"; "Sweet Love" bounces on bass and Rhodes, "You" is a string-swept dancer, and "Just Us" has long been a steppers favourite. A quiet cult record of spiritual soul and jazz-funk. This copy is a later Columbia pressing, issued in 1980 or after.
