A twelve-inch issued by WEA in May 1980, written and produced by Chris Palmer. "The Scratch" appears on both sides — instrumental on the A, and on the flip a long version carrying the "Scratch me!" call and scat vocal. Four minutes of jazz-funk from just before British funk proper took shape. The arrangement lets a DJ switch between the instrumental and the vocal, which is much of the point of having it as a twelve-inch.
