"Urszula" is a solo album by Polish vocalist and composer Urszula Dudziak. Built on the jazz-funk/fusion sensibility cultivated around Michał Urbaniak, this album showcases experimental vocal expression that treats the voice as an instrument. Her vocals, which make extensive use of scat and effects and freely move between the boundaries of melody, rhythm, and timbre, significantly expanded the boundaries of jazz vocals at the time. Her sound, which is highly intertwined with the grooves of funk and electric jazz, is extremely refreshing, even in light of the current reevaluation of crossover/fusion. This is a representative work that clearly captures Urszula Dudziak's individuality and cutting-edge style.
